Hmmmm could be worse? cams and mapping, service and shimming would costs nearly that anyway just to put it into perspective.

Yeah I know, still not nice though
Shall see Warren, he didn't want to rule the block out until it was out and stripped down so he could have a proper look

Chris the engine is fine, valve seats are fine so it was decided to repair as its £350 whereas a new head, if you can find one, will be closer to £1000+. I have been assured it will be fine I told them its got alot of abuse to stand up too but he said they do heads day in day out and if they thought it might not be strong they wouldn't do it as I get guarantee so they'd be paying to take my engine back apart, which nobody wants to pay for
So I ordered parts from BMW:
1 x Headgasket
1 x Headgasket Set
1 x Head bolt Set
12 x Rocker arms
1 x Shim
4 x Valves
1 x Oil Filter
1 x Vanos Filter
1 x Big End Bearings Set
I added the big end bearings just because whilst it's apart it's be silly not too as it needs a piston.
I've taken a gamble with the pistons which in theory they should be fine as pistons don't really wear but I've got to get them measured up with a Vernier something. Martyn knows what he's looking for. Basically I got 4 2nd hand on eBay for £50. BMW only sell them as a set of 6.........£1200+VAT. Ridiculous! So I'm hoping at least one of them are good as I will have saved a fortune, I refuse to buy 6 when I need 1

So once the parts are back in next week the head is being built back up, not sure on the time scale but I don't want to rush them & I don't particularly need the car right now

Promising news Hopefully it'll be back up and running perfect soon and doesnt cost too much.
At least the garage is giving a warranty on it so much wont be lost if it doesnt work out right.

The bottom end is getting ARP'd too, so in theory it should be a damn strong engine running the best it can! I hope lol.
I can see why people use garages rather than do it themselves as it is nice not having to do anything but it certainly ain't cheap, I'd only do it for big jobs like this

To be honest, given that all you ever hear about is the price of parts, main stealers etc. I really don't think it's that bad, the headgasket was £90? Big end bearings £10 each etc. After you add it all up it's alot but I have got alot of parts
Thanks mate. Just can't wait to get it back now, moved into a flat so the car has been put at the back of my mind but I'm in & settled now so I need it back before I start clawing ///M into my flesh.
