does that front bar block the view from your wing mirrors?
red would look awesome with black leather trimmed over the door bars
I would have thought so, certainly the passenger side, quite annoying but never mind, got to change the way the rear view mirror mounts aswell as the screen bar is in the way

Its not bare metal. Its dark grey which makes it look like that.

Door cards have needed some minor adjustment which I did today, still got to tidy up the edges after using a dremel to trim them.

Got dark/cold so carried on indoors

Don't look too bad I think. It was either chop them or lose them, car isn't at the stage of bare metal upfront yet, I like my armrest alot too...so it's the best of both worlds. Only problem is the speakers hit the cage (they still mount in the same place), so that one will have to be re-thought!
Now the door/curtain airbags are useless, so it was recommended to unplug them, so I thought I may aswell remove them to make up for the weight I've added! I kinda regret that now after learning the curtain one ends behind the dash and you can't unbolt them without the dash out....it doesn't look like too bad a job luckily but still annoying!

And the mirror needs adjustments too

If I could extend the arm by an inch towards the dash, I could adjust it so it faces upwards more and it would be fine. I was only really wanting to use the OEM mirror to keep the OEM look and because it tints/shows the alarm is on, but if it's hard work ill just get a mirror that clips to the cage.

I understand your reasonings for all this, but personally I think it's a shame to see a decent M3 getting hacked about like this now

I'd say at this point you really need to go all the way, half a doorcard seems daft!
This car either needs to be flush with luxury and comfort or it needs to be a completely stripped out track monster with straps rivetted onto the inside of the door to pull them closed and shit like that
Big respect for having the balls to go to town on this car, it's not the approach I'd have taken with a car of my own but I would love to borrow it for a track weekend!

I appreciate the points made and 6 months ago I'd have agreed, but now it's more about safety on track than anything. Doing it this way I've met in the middle, I've done the least amount of hacking possible! Carbon doorcards are an option, but I would want ones that fit properly I think rather than just a flat piece of carbon.
It's so tempting to rip everything out don't get me wrong, but for now (I say this because my view on the car has changed widely in my year of ownership :lol I'm happy!

You do have balls I'll give you that. While I prefered the look before, I still like it. Don't think id be cutting door cards up mind. Needs totally stripped and a half flocked dash.

Not really that exciting an update but thought I haven't really put much up
It got dirty

I cleaned it

I stripped the cage out to send off for powdercoating

I removed the dash so I could take curtain airbags out. I also wanted to remove it to see how easy it was to modify the heater matrix to fit a double din (the standard BMW unit is a single din on the bottom to go around the heater matrix) but it looks like hard work. Removing and refitting dash was very easy actually, can tell where it's good build quality.

Whilst it was out I sprayed the new cage foot plates at the front, just used a rattle can that's actually meant for my front calipers but I used it anyway, it's a really good match actually for a rattle can.

Ghetto spraying

Had a metallic grinding from the rear, pads were fine so checked the handbrake shoes and they needed changed, £17, winner

Car needed it's Inspection 2 Service, and I had a couple of annoying issues that I couldn't be arsed to fix mostly down to crap weather we've been having so I sent it to Scott's Motorsport who did my engine. Fixed a knocking from the front left, pressure bled the clutch to see if that solves my clutch issues, fixed the cruise control & checked alarm as it keeps going off but no faults. Nice not to have to get cold or dirty but I nearly fainted at the bill. Then my cage was ready so picked that up too, I'm properly skint now
Shit pic of the colour I chose this time, went for a different colour partly due to a different company and I was never happy with the finish (laquer cracked in places). I didn't like the new companies anthracites they reminded me of school furniture so I went for a metallic black with a silver flick. Looks quite nice.

Starting cage fitting tomorrow weather dependant.
