Every year I go up to visit some of my dad's friends who own an island up in Scotland. I usually take a few snaps while I'm up there, here's a selection from this year

I wrote a few words about the trip on my blog too if you're interested: http://edcs.me/2012/08/trip-to-the-outer-hebrides/

Great shots! What does it cost to hire a plane? Do you have to walk around it and identify scratches and kerbed wheels before hand?

That one costs double that. It's not like car hire, you are a member of a group and you have to be trained to use the aircraft type e.t.c. You do inspect the aircraft before you use it though, but it's the law/very sensible to do so. If you did put a scrape on it you couldn't fly it until an engineer signs it off as airworthy!

It's timed using a Hobbs meter, so when there's oil pressure in the engine the clock starts ticking. What you pay is total Hobbs time minus 0.1 hours to allow you to do the ground checks without worrying too much that it's costing £4 a minute
